I had the chance to return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time since 2019, once again to review cabaret and LGBTQ+ shows for the Scotsman.

I caught a couple of dozen shows during my week there – you can read my reviews by following the links below.

Shows in bold got five stars but everything else is recommended too (I chose my own review list and luckily chose well!).

Grace Petrie: Butch Ado About Nothing

Black Sheep by Livia Kojo Alour

Briefs: Bite Club

Madame Chandelier’s Opera House Party

And a round-up of three shows at the ever-entertaining Voodoo Rooms:
Laurie Black: Dystopiano | Amber Topaz: Greying Still Slaying | The Magical Faraway Cabaret with Mister Meredith

The Anniversary

The Mr Thing Show

And I shared these links previously but here they are again:

A round-up of four great queer-themed shows:
Wilf | Delicious Fruit | No Place Like Home | Grandmother’s Closet
plus a special mention for Ode to Joy (or How Gordon Got to Go to the Nasty Pig Party)

Mat Ricardo: The Extraordinary Gentleman

Reuben Kaye: The Butch is Back

An Evening Without Kate Bush by Sarah-Louise Young

ALOK

Sooz Kempner: PlayStation

Séayoncé: Res-Erection

Myra DuBois’ A Problem Shared

Tina Del Twist: Caravan in the Sky

The Silent Treatment by Sarah-Louise Young

Looking for Me Friend: The Music of Victoria Wood by Paulus aka Paul L. Martin

Fabulett 1933 by Michael Trauffner

Final Baby Girl! by Baby Lame

Other strong recommendations for shows I saw but am not reviewing:

MasterClass by Adrienne Truscott and Feidlim Cannon of Brokentalkers

Gayboys by Craig Manson and Conner Milliken

And I kept hearing great things about The Chosen Haram but wasn’t able to see it.

(I also saw a show called Love and Piss that had its moments but I couldn’t really recommend.)
